Seminar Description
The Special Inspection webinar provides a general overview of Special Inspection from Chapter 17 of the 2018 International Building Code® (IBC®) with a focus on the duties of the engineer. We will highlight the engineer’s duties vs. the special inspector’s duties, compare jurisdictional inspection vs. special inspection, and look at the required structural special inspections.
Speaker Bio
Sandra Hyde, P.E. is a Senior Staff Engineer with the International Code Council (ICC) where she develops books and seminars about the structural provisions of the International Building Code (IBC), International Existing Building Code (IEBC) and structural materials. Sandra has authored the 2012 and 2018 Special Inspection Manual, coauthored the 2018 and 2021 editions of the Significant Changes to the IBC and created seminars for each of these books as well as other structural topics. She previously worked in manufacturing and research of engineered wood products with Weyerhaeuser. Sandra is a Registered Civil Engineer in Idaho and California.
Registration Information
Please note a single registration allows you to have one connection. However, a number of people can view and listen to the seminar using one connection by using an LCD projector (or a large computer monitor) and good computer speakers or a speaker phone.
All attendees, irrespective of the number of registered connections, can earn 0.20 Continuing Education Units (CEUs) or 2.0 professional development hours (PDHs). CEU/PDH certificates are provided free of charge.
To meet the new reality of social distancing, we are reducing the price for additional connections to our live webinars (see table below). This discount will apply to live webinars scheduled through the end of May 2020. The discount is also available to those of you who have a webinar subscription plan with us.

FAQ
- A connection is defined as a single web connection plus a single telephone connection (if necessary).
- A $15 fee will apply if the seminar registrant wishes to revise the web seminar registration (e.g. switch from one web seminar to another).
- Refunds are limited to 80 percent of fee and must be applied for in writing WITHIN THIRTY DAYS after the scheduled seminar.
- We are a registered provider for continuing education in the State of Florida (Provider # 4732), the State of New York (Provider # 99), the State of New Jersey (Provider # 24GP00014200), the State of Maryland, and for the Structural Engineers Certification Board (SECB) of the National Council of Structural Engineers Associations (NCSEA).
