S. K. Ghosh, Ph.D., President

Dr. S.K. Ghosh was formerly Director, Engineering Services, Codes and Standards, Portland Cement Association, Skokie, IL, and is Adjunct Professor of Civil Engineering at the University of Illinois at Chicago.

Dr. Ghosh is known internationally for his work in earthquake engineering. He has influenced seismic design provisions in the United States for many years by serving on or chairing numerous committees and advisory panels. He played a major role in the development of shearwall design provisions of the 1994 UBC and the precast concrete design provisions of 1997 UBC.

Dr. Ghosh has lectured extensively in the U.S., Canada, and abroad on the analysis, response, and design of concrete structures. He specializes in the analysis and design, including earthquake resistant design, of reinforced and prestressed concrete structures. Dr. Ghosh is active on many national technical committees and is a fellow of ACI. He is a member of ACI Committee 318, Standard Building Code, and of the ACI Technical Activities Committee.

In addition to authoring many publications in the area of seismic design, he has investigated and reported on recent earthquakes including the Mexico earthquake of 1985, the Loma Prieta earthquake of 1989, the Northridge earthquake of 1994, and the Kobe earthquake of 1995, and the Kocaeli, Turkey earthquake of 1999.
